The Flintstone’s Bedrock City in Custer, South Dakota
The challenge for this week is to freshen up a pattern in the gallery with a new look, this week Pattern #208 is our subject and I’ll use the 2×3 Arrow Die to help do it.
The original example in the gallery is a snow page with cool blues cardstock and pattern paper, matted photos, and a title that spreads across the page in two blocks.
This time I began with our featured Mosaic Moments grid paper, Limeade, and featured die, the 2×3 Arrow Die. Now Limeade is one of those bold and bright color grids that I often wonder how to use. For some inspiration I looked through my Pinterest pinboard “Color My World” to see what I had to work with this grid. There were several good choices but I settled on one with a citrus palette. I’ve used a yellow, yellow-orange, orange, red orange and deep green.
• Freshen up with: New Colors
• Freshen up with: Dies
This pattern provides two spots for the 2×3 Arrow Die and I bring back the 1” square Point the Way die to fill in several of the 1” squares creating additional arrow strips. I use the 2×3 arrows as a place to add the labels for the page.
• Freshen up with: Cropping
One photo for the lower left hand corner I cropped it square and added 1” squares from the photo in the spots below.
• Freshen up with: Journaling on your mat
The bottom center photo is matted leaving an area below to journal.
My center mosaic area is filled with some dinosaur print paper.
The colors for this layout are a good compliment to the photos taken at The Flintstones Bedrock City in Custer, South Dakota. All the bright yellows, oranges and aqua in the park make this a colorful and fun page. It shows that you can often find a way to stretch yourself and try a new color combination with just a little inspiration.
I hope you’ll find ways to freshen up a pattern in the Pattern Gallery and maybe you’ll share it on the new Crop & Share: Mosaic Moments Facebook page.
See you there!
