Tell Your Story: Eilean Donan Castle
Featuring:
Mosaic Moments Grid: Dark Ocean Blue
Mosaic Moments Die: Oval Frame Set Die
Mosaic Moments Patter # 211 column style
This year we will be continuing the Tell Your Story articles and also featuring a new die in each of the layouts. To get us started this week I’ll show the Oval Frame Set two ways, one as a frame for a photo and the second smaller one for a journal spot. I’ve cut one in cardstock and one in a plaid patterned paper.
I’m using Pattern #211 a column style pattern on Dark Ocean Blue Grid Paper.
The plaid paper frame is mounted on a white Paper Tile. I also could have cut the frame in white cardstock and mounted the oval center on a plaid paper tile.
The larger oval frame in blue cardstock is mounted on a 4×6 photo. I was going to print the photo larger, but wondered how well a regular 4×6 print would fare behind the 4.375” x 6.625” oval frame. It worked nicely, with all edges hidden behind the frame and centered perfectly.
I went with this darker blue cardstock because it worked well with the Dark Ocean Blue Grid Paper and was a close match for the mat board on the cross-stitched piece. In fact the oval stitchery frame echoes the oval frame set and fits right into the page design.
Only a portion of the original stitchery was necessary for this layout, but this is what the full piece looks like.
I’ve placed the ovals on the diagonal in this layout to string them all together.
Plaid mats behind the journal block and the framed artwork photo bring interest in the way of keeping with the theme while adding more color.
My story this month is about a castle in Scotland. It is an iconic castle, well photographed and appearing in TV, movies and numerous advertisements for many years. However, to me, growing up it was the featured photo in our living room in the house I lived as a child. It was a castle we visited as a family, one I returned to years later, it was one I recreated in a cross-stitch piece. It was more than just a nice photo of a castle but a connection to a country and a family an ocean away. I want my family in years to come to know where it all began.
Whether you want to frame a journal spot, title or feature a favorite photo you’ll find the oval frame set die one you go to often.
