Hand-Cutting Techniques

Cut Beyond the Dies

The Basic Die Bundle gives you the essential shapes for creating Mosaic Moments pages—but sometimes you want to create something the dies don't provide. That’s where hand-cutting comes in. Using the Grid as your guide, you can cut custom shapes and add details that go beyond your die collection. It’s a simple way to expand your creative possibilities while keeping your pages connected to the Mosaic Moments system.

Long strip on left side of the page was cut with a mat, knife and ruler.

If you have the dies, why choose to hand-cut too?

Make Long Strips
Image
The strip on the left side measures 2x10 squares on the grid paper (actual measurements: 2.125x11.125 in.). Long strips are great for adding more pattern paper, a title with large letters, and large stickers.
Make Large Blocks
Image
The strip on the left side measures 2x10 squares on the grid paper (actual measurements: 2.125x11.125 in.). Larger blocks allow you to have a big mat behind photos and give more room for extra embellishments.

Trim Photos to Unique Sizes
Image
You may want to make extra space for embellishments, such as the floral stamp in the paper mat above. The photo was trimmed slightly to make room to see the stamp design.
Have Photos Bleed to Edge of Page
Image
Yes! You can have your photos by past the Grid Paper lines for a special effect. When you cut add an extra 3/8ths of an inch so your photo or paper can reach to the edge.

How to Use the Cutting Mat

It's important to understand the measurements in order to hand-cut design blocks.
