In a previous post I showed that the new Stencil Number Die could be used to mark off the passing of months in a pregnancy. You can also use the numbers to add dates, countdowns, create lists, for step-by-steps or ingredients. For a vacation page numbers can mark the days, as I have here or even to record the mileage on a long journey for an epic trip. I’m sure you’ll think of more.

My photos are from a road trip with my then 14 yr. old son that I grouped by days of the journey. It was supposed to be a long road trip covering many miles, various events and points of interest on the map. It didn’t quite end that way, the weather changed that, but, it was still a great trip and I’m putting this album together grouping the photos together from each day’s event.

Yes, we were just driving through these places, but taking a moment at various stops along the way help to remember how we got there, what the weather was like, what stood out to us along the way, humor, signage, rest areas, landscape, tourist info all help to add to the big picture. I even managed to capture his sense of humor along the way in the Georgia shot.

I have selected two Puzzle Patterns from our Pattern Gallery # 173 and #179. I flipped pattern #179 so that a diagonal step up on the left could be countered with the right side being a diagonal step down carrying your eye from the bottom left to top center and down again on the right. It also helped me to keep my big photo on the bottom right as the end of our journey on day two, arriving in Florida, our first main destination stop.

Using the Orange Sun CornerStone helped to plan the rest of the color palette. It really pops against that blue doesn’t it?

Paper Tiles were used for several of the photos in a variety of shades that made me think of that Florida sun and the signage of several states. I also used the double sided patterned paper for tiles and mats as they worked so nicely against the Dark Ocean Blue Grid. Although the patterned paper is only used in a couple of spots the travel theme adds to the layout nicely. You don’t have to use a lot of patterned paper; a little goes a long way!

The Mosaic Moments Die Sets made layering the photos on the mats extremely easy and quick getting even mats all around. They take the guess work out of this step! Using Stick It! sheet adhesive gets all the small spots with an even coat.

I have used the number tiles for the dates, and along with the Free downloaded Blue Letter Tiles the letters for d-a-y for Days 1 and 2. If you have the alphabet Die Set you will be able to customize the color of letters you use. I thought white letter blocks throughout with various colored paper tiles beneath would give me the most flexibility overall. For the numbers for each of the days I used the darker Huckleberry Pie Tiles underneath so they would work with the letters and still stand out. On the dates I used a different color for the month, day and year to increase readability.

Can you imagine using the numbers to record your odometer reading each night on a long trip or maybe just the miles traveled? That would certainly add a detail in an interesting way.

I suggest you visit the Pattern Gallery and select the Category “Puzzle” and see the many choices you have in this style from which to choose. There are currently 16 Puzzle Patterns in the Gallery with more patterns being added all the time. Be sure to check them all out and try a few for your next layout! You’ll enjoy your pages coming together so quickly when you begin with a pattern!!
